About Us

About Braemore Square Country House

Braemore Square Country House was built in 1840 and was once part of the Braemore Estate of the renowned Engineer, Sir John Fowler, who built the Forth Rail Bridge, the Pimlico Bridge, which carried the first railway across the Thames (1860), Victoria Station and was a pioneer of the London Underground system. Examples of Sir John's creativity can be found on the land and nearby, such as the suspension bridge over Corrieshalloch Gorge and the Falls of Measach, a mile south from us - not for the faint hearted... The building itself has a lot of history, we still have acres of land and forest around us, and riverside access that we overlook. Fishing can be organised on our stretch of the river or in the Lochs around us - the River has a good stock of Salmon and Sea Trout (the salmon are returned on capture) during the season between February and October, and non-residents can fish too, though we charge a nominal daily fee. Our location (see map below) makes us an ideal base for a Highland holiday, the areas has endless walks, climbs, cycle routes and more - at levels that will match the active and the more sedate. The current owners, Lisa and Chester, are developing Braemore Square Country House into a self-sufficient, organic smallholding. Our guests are most welcome to browse our veggie garden, we have different veggies and fruits  avaiable, please remeber to put a donation in the honesty box, once you have helped yourself to the home grown produce or the free range eggs. Our free range hens provide our guests with their free range breakfast eggs.  20 Highland cows  roam the fields, we are more than happy to take our Guests to visit our 'Braemore Clan' , they easily creep into your hearts, these beautiful creatures.
